Hip Hop Connection #6 (July 1989)

Still haven't managed to track down a copy of issue 5, although I've gotta be honest, I haven't really been trying all that hard. For now I'm skipping straight to issue 6 from July '89, which sadly isn't as good as the last edition I posted. There's an in depth interview with Russell Simmons which is quite an interesting read (for some reason I cut out the 'MC's' type from the Ultras poster so a small section of the article is missing), a good eight page coverage of the infamous Bridlington Graf Jam (some top photos here - haircuts and tracksuits to go!), and the first appearance of the 'Demo Blaster' section. 'Strictly Business' gives news of a forthcoming, exclusive LL Cool J flexidisc and 'On The Tip' sees Wendy K taking a pop at The 45 King for keeping the breaks he uses close to his chest (oh dear). Short but sweet interviews with Prince Lover Dalu and T La Rock are worth a read as is Malu Halasa's 'Science' article and the 'Gangsta Limpin' section (some cool photos included). I've also posted this shot from Normski's photo page - a scene of total chaos at the Ultramagnetic's Dingwalls show - any one reading in attendance on the night? Love to hear some stories!

It's all about the picture of Woofa & Lennie (who later formed Suspekt) on the bottom right Bridlington page...

Props Krum, bought back some more faded memories. Wish i'd never trashed all my copies...

i was there, got some photos of the pieces, during and after. i remember being surprised at how tall Vulcan was. I also remember Normski waffling on as well, him being a knowledgeable and accomplished writer and all(?!), slagging the Sheffield representatives TDK saying, 'it's getting there'. They didn't win anything but it was a dope piece and still have the photos too. I don't think I liked Normski very much and I never have after that comment. Old grudges are reluctant to fade up north..

Bring a tear to the eye to see these again since mine were cut up & jumble-saled years ago. Big Cheers!
I was'nt at the dingwalls jam but i did see ultramagnetics at 'the slammer' in gravesend the same year or maybe the year after. Cookie crew dancing in the crowd, Duke getting hold of the mic and freestyling which nobody liked(everyone must've been on overlord x's side!), kool keith ripping shit up- ALL good!
